Wine Gift Australia A stunning wooden gift box made of 100 year old wood, filled with extraordinary Australian Wines:- 0,75 l Bin 2 Shiraz Mourvedre
Penfolds Bin 2 was first released in 1960, but was discontinued during the 1970s at the height of the white wine boom. The original Bin 2 was an -Australian Burgundy- style (despite its Rhone varieties) - typically a soft, medium-bodied wine based on Shiraz. The Bin 2 blend of Shiraz and Mourvedre is relatively uncommon in Australian wines. Also known as Mataro or Monastrell, Mourvedre was introduced to Australia in the 1830s. Sometimes used in fortified wine production, this grape is widely planted in the Barossa Valley. It is greatly valued by winemakers for its blending attributes, adding complexity and palate grip. Interest in Bin 2 has grown as the popularity of traditional Rhone varieties and blends continues to flourish. Australian Burgundy style a generous, medium-bodied wine based on shiraz shot with the aromatics and muscular strength or mourvedre. Mourvedre is dark in colour, smells of Provencal herbs and spices and has plenty of tannin stuffing. This is a wine varietal greatly valued by Penfolds winemakers for its blending attributes, toning down the exuberant qualities of shiraz, while adding overall complexity and palate grip. The contemporary Bin 2 style is based on warmer vineyard sites like the Barossa Valley and is aged in older oak to emphasise just how well the spicy savouriness of mourvedre complements the plush richness of shiraz. - 0,75 l Bin 28 Kalimna Shiraz
Penfolds Bin 28 is a showcase for warm-climate Australian Shiraz - ripe, robust and generously flavoured. First made in 1959, Bin 28 is named after the famous Barossa Valley Kalimna vineyard purchased by Penfolds in 1945 and from which the wine was originally sourced. Today, Bin 28 is a multi-region, multivineyard blend, with the Barossa Valley always well represented, providing a substantial proportion of the fruit for this vintage. The earliest releases of Bin 28 were single-vineyard wines, produced from grapes grown on the famous Kalimna vineyard at the northern end of the Barossa Valley. With demand increasing, it became essential to extend sourcing to regions outside the Barossa and so during the 1970s, Bin 28 became a multi-regional, warm-climate South Australian blend. Early vinification techniques originated from the development of Grange. Today the wine is matured in older American oak hogsheads to enhance fruit complexity and natural tannin structure. Bin 28 is inherently richer in style than Bin 128 and Koonunga Hill and despite the fact that it can be an earlier drinking style, this wine has a reputation for improving with medium-term cellaring in the right conditions.
